help please. problem with selective accessibility of a site

hi all,

i'm having a bit of a problem with a website we're running. some ISPs are able to access it while others cannot. i know this from testing with my ISP at home and at work, as well as my mobile telco internet. and also from reports from other known site visitors. using my ISP at home and via my mobile telco, i can access the site without a problem. it's with the ISP at work that i can't access the site.

i've reported this to the hosting company and they claim the site is up and that the problem is not on their end.

i've also reported this issue to our ISP at work and they "fixed" the problem saying it had something to do with the "routing". they didn't provide any specifics. after a few days though the problem has returned and the site has become inaccessible again. in any case, it's also not practical to call each and every ISP that doesn't connect properly to the site. there has to be some other way than having to do this.

anyone here who has had the same experience and may know of the solution to this problem or at least point me to the right direction?

Firefox 8.0.1 blocking redirects by default

There's a bunch of things I'm not happy about with Firefox 8 but this surprised me a bit. Firefox is blocking all redirects by default so that when I log into Webmaster Help I get this message...

Then there's an Allow button I need to click. Am I getting old and resistant to change and this is actually quite annoying?

Oh wow.. I thought I'd see if there was an update that fixed the redirect blocking and lo and behold Firefox 8 is history already! Obviously I'm not up to date on the Firefox dev cycle but that seems like and incredibly short life for version 8 so I have another question for you all. Is Mozilla just trying to keep up with Google Chrome's blistering development cycle or have they realised that Firefox 8 had too many FAILS?

Just logged into FF 9 and sadly the redirect blocking is still there

Does paypal automatically withdraw from bank if insufficient funds available?

Quick question.. Say I've got a paypal balance of $100 and I make a purchase of $120, does paypal automatically access my bank account for the extra $20?

If not then do I get charged a dishonor fee?

OK I've done some more digging and it looks like paypal will go ahead and take money from your credit card or bank acct, and if you don't have sufficient funds you will get charged a usually hefty dishonor fee by your bank.

I haven't actually confirmed tho so if anyone can confirm that I'd appreciate it.

addons.firefox.com does not work but to addons.mozilla.org does. Maybe I'm being a domain-nazi but I think this is silly imo, if only slightly.

Registrations from users that don't post

Can anyone tell me why this forum gets thousands of registrations from users that don't post?

If they are spam registrations then it is quite strange because they don't even put a website in their user profile. And they don't post so they aren't spamming that way so it leaves me a little baffled.

Warning to everyone!
I've enable user pruning so if you don't post withing 7 days your account will be deleted. Almost 3000 inactive accounts got deleted after doing this so that gives you an idea of what I'm talking about.

Edit: the prune limit has been decreased to 7 days... so you have to post withing 7 days. It won't stop the spammers but it helps.

Firefox 8 not saving passwords
